I was bored last night, and was surfing the web, and stumbled across instructions on how to extract your own DNA (at stuartcw.livejournal.com/628940.html). I'd never extracted my own DNA, so I immediately followed the instructions, and ended up with a stringy, goopy extract of me. It was all very exciting for a few minutes, but I was left wondering NOW WHAT? So, I thought I'd ask around on here for suggestions for easy things to do with freshly extracted DNA and things I might have around home.

Re: What to do with spare DNA?
Sat, December 18, 2004 - 12:58 PMUnfortunately I was unable to view the website in question, however, if it were my dna then I would consider the following:
1. Let it grow. Put it into a warm, moist environment and feed it simple proteins and sugars. The realy exciting thing is that you don't know what will grow!
2.Perhaps you want to extract someone elses dna, or maybe your family pets and combine them all.
3.Feed it to your fish.
4.Use it for practical jokes.
But all in all, I feel that trying to keep it alive and let it grow would be the best thing for humanity. Let us know what happens. Send pictures. -

Sat, December 18, 2004 - 1:36 PMPut it in soup... not only will the DNA give it body and marry the flavours but your dinner guest can all leave with a little piece of you. -

Re: What to do with spare DNA?
Wed, December 22, 2004 - 1:02 PMAs the extraction process makes use of dish soap, I think I'll avoid any culinary uses...
